The Only Facebook Timeline Cleaner You Need (New Scrubber)

There’s something exciting we want to share with you…

We just added a Facebook timeline cleaner to our software. And it blows all the other ones out of the water.

Before we move on, here are a couple lifelines for the time-sensitive:

  • Want to skip past “why we made it” and get to “why it’s better?” Scroll down a smidge.

Why We Made It

As you’ve probably noticed, more people have been getting in trouble over what they post online.

And the bar for what’s considered a “fireable offense” is getting lower and lower.

Old content on social media is being looked at by hiring managers, reporters, you name it. This has become common practice.

Because of this, a lot of folks are trying to clean up their Facebook accounts by using a timeline cleaner (or scrubber).

This makes total sense.

It’s way too easy for an old post to come back and bite you. You have to protect yourself.

However, doing it all manually is extremely time consuming and tedious. For those who had thousands of posts on Facebook, sifting through everything could take days.

This is where a timeline cleaner comes in handy.

Here’s the big issue:

Most of the Facebook timeline cleaners are a pain in the butt to use.

For whatever reason, they’re overly complicated, technical and require you to install scripts of code (what?) to use with specific plugins.

Script example of a Facebook cleaner

To make matters worse, most of them don’t work 100% of the time. You could easily waste an hour or two getting it set up for nothing, because part of the script is messed up.

Since a lot of these are provided for free, the developers aren’t super speedy about making sure everything works.

And then there’s the possibility of getting hacked.

Yup. It’s not uncommon for one of these janky Facebook cleaners to actually provide account access to other people.

This could happen by someone injecting code into a legitimate script, or simply by choosing the wrong tool made by a shady coder.

Simply put, using these cleaners is not a pleasant experience for most people.

Honestly we have no idea how someone hasn’t done a better job yet. Facebook has been around for a while now.

We needed to add this feature to our product.

A Natural Extension

Our reputation management software was created primarily to help people deal with unwanted Google results.

This was (and still is) at the core of our software and services. People needed help and we were there to give it.

But as more and more individuals started shooting themselves in the foot on social media, we knew this was something we had to take seriously.

Luckily it was a natural extension of our product to add a Facebook timeline cleaner to help our users scrub away any damaging posts.

The main focus was making it more effective than the other solutions you could find online.

You see, there are a couple reasons why the other timeline cleaners aren’t impressive:

  • It takes dedicated technical resources to develop something complex (most Facebook cleaners were built as side projects)
  • If you want to access a users account your app has to be approved by Facebook

This makes the barrier to entry much higher, and it’s why all the other cleaners are bare-bones.

The second reason (getting approval from Facebook) is why there ended up being a ton of funky “script + plugin” options. Without direct access to the account that’s the only available option.

Why It’s Better

Given all the hassle we went over earlier, it was pretty clear what we needed to achieve with our Facebook timeline cleaner. It had to:

  • Save you time
  • Not require technical chops (no more installing scripts)
  • Be smarter than a mass-deletion tool

Goals for our cleaner

It Saves Time

The whole reason anyone looks for a scrubber/cleaner is they don’t want to manually sort through all of their posts.

Given how often the average person uses Facebook, we totally get it. Going through thousands of posts is a complete pain.

The issue with other timeline cleaners is they don’t save you as much time as they should.

You could delete a lot of your posts quickly, but the time spent getting everything set up was excessive.

We wanted to make the process as seamless as possible.

By developing an application with approval to access accounts, we were able to do this.

Instead of messing around with scripts and plugins, all you have to do is sign up and authorize your Facebook account with our software (only takes a couple clicks).

You Don’t Need Any Technical Skills

One of the most frustrating aspects of old Facebook timeline cleaners is they needed the user to be a little tech savvy during installation and after.

We already explained how we solved the problem during the installation or set up process, but what about after?

With most cleaners you were essentially operating a tweaked version of Facebook (on your end). This meant you had to get comfortable with the new settings and methods of deleting your old posts.

We heard how frustrating that was for people and how they wished it could have been more intuitive. Just sign up and go.

Our timeline cleaner was made to do just that.

Once you authorize access to your Facebook account our tool will automatically start scanning for damaging posts.

No need for you to do anything else.

It’s Way Smarter

Most Facebook timeline cleaners are dumb.

They only have two options (at best):

  1. Delete posts older than a specified age
  2. Remove everything

The problem is these options come with a significant downside:

Most people didn’t want to delete all their posts (they would have just scrapped their account if that was the case).

They went along with it because there wasn’t a better option, and the process of doing it manually is a nightmare.

It was time to bring Facebook scrubbers into the 21st century.

Here’s what we did:

Our timeline cleaner uses machine learning and semantic algorithms to go through all your Facebook posts and look for anything that might be damaging.

It can do this for posts AND photos.

For example if you said something unsavory after a few too many drinks, our cleaner will flag it.

If you took some pictures that night with beer bottles in your hand? Our tool will flag that as well.

You don’t have to get rid of these if you don’t want. The reason it’s flagged is to notify you of content you might not want others (like your boss) to judge you on.

This all happens automatically after you connect your account. You don’t need to mess with any funky settings.

How To Use It

If you want to get started and put our timeline cleaner to use, here’s what you need to do.

How to use our cleaner

Step 1: Sign up

Head over to this page and create your account. If you sign up with your Facebook profile it’ll be slightly faster.

Sign up with Facebook to speed things up

If you have a BrandYourself account already you can skip this step.

Step 2: Make sure your Facebook profile is connected

Head over to the “connect profiles” area and make sure your Facebook account is connected. It should be connected if you signed up with Facebook.

If you didn’t you’ll have to connect it here. All you have to do is drop in your Facebook email and password into the window that pops up and you’re on to the next step.

Connecting your social profiles if needed

Step 3: Let the scanning begin

Once you’ve connected your profile the scan will start automatically (you’ll see a “loading” notification at the top).

It shouldn’t take long to sift through your profile and flag anything, but give the timeline cleaner a minute or two just to be safe.

Step 4: Get rid of the bad stuff

Now that everything is flagged and ready to go, it’s time to put the Facebook scrubber to use.

Scroll through all of the flagged posts and identify the ones that have to go. It’s usually easiest to use the category tabs at the top.

Once you find something you want to get rid of, click the delete button.

Easy.

Deleting your posts with the Facebook cleaner

Since our timeline cleaner works to identify potentially damaging posts, this step won’t take long.

You’ll typically find that the amount of content you need to delete is way lower than you thought (unless you’re quite the Facebook wild child).

This is one of the reasons why so many people went for the bulk Facebook timeline cleaners in the past.

Now you have the information you need to get a little more surgical with your approach.

You Might As Well Do This Too

You’re done scrubbing your timeline and have accomplished what you set out to do. Awesome.

But don’t stop there.

If you’re on Twitter you should do the same thing and delete old tweets that could cause you problems in the future.

The steps are the same. Connect your account, let it scan, and delete the bad stuff.

We’re going to be adding more networks to the tool going forward (like Instagram) so keep an eye out for that too.

Next, give your search results a scan.

You might be surprised by what shows up.

To do this, click on the “Improve Google Results” tab and follow the steps. It’s as simple as entering your name and letting our software go searching.

The Wrap Up

The whole reason you’re looking for a Facebook timeline cleaner is you want to protect your online reputation. No matter how it’s worded, that’s the reason.

This is the mindset you need to stay in constantly.

How you appear online matters (a lot). No matter what people say, it can either help you or hurt you.

Now that you’ve used our Facebook cleaner, get comfortable checking back periodically to see how your online presence is doing.

Even if you don’t want to grow your personal brand, you should be looking at your Reputation Report regularly at the very least. It will give you a heads up if there’s anything concerning you need to take care of.

In this day and age, you never know who’s looking you up.
